UK & Ireland Counties

UK & Ireland Counties

This one is not so much of a matrix as a map.

It’s easy enough to understand. Colours appear on every map I’ve done at least one cache in. The darker the county, the more caches I’ve done there.

Now this is one I’ve definitely been having a go at, to the extent that I completed 15 new counties in 2014. Only 5 counties in England remain for me, and a couple in Wales. I need a few trips to Scotland though, by the looks of it.

Months Placed Matrix

Months Placed Matrix

This matrix is all about finding caches that were placed in every month since caching started.

So this one involves tracking down some old caches. New ones are easy to find. Old ones are somewhat like the proverbial rocking-horse doo-doos. In fact, there are several months on this chart that are now only available in North America.

Here’s my progress. I haven’t really ever gone out of my way to fill this in until 2014, where a few deliberate moves were made – if you include sitting on a bus down to Munich and back as a deliberate move.

Will I ever finish this one ? Seems unlikely.

Difficulty / Terrain Matrix

Difficulty / Terrain Matrix

What’s this one all about then ?

Well each cache has a difficulty rating and a terrain rating. So the idea is to fill in as many different combinations as possible.

This one is tricky to do and generally you have to make special trips for specific caches, which is something I haven’t been doing in the previous years, so any achievement here is a bonus.

You can tell that I’ve not gone much for high terrain ratings, and on analysis of local UK caches with high terrain ratings I have determined that I need to learn how to canoe or to climb trees with ropes. Or both. Or get myself a fire engine so I can cross water or climb trees with a ladder.

And just for good measure, here’s my current chart, showing a few new entries this year achieved on a particularly fruitful day in Kent (see Oast with the Most).

Days Placed Matrix

Days Placed Matrix

These pictures show my progress through the “Days Placed” matrix.

This one’s a bit false, I know, as I personally don’t bother much with it when I set my own caches, however it’s an interesting exercise nonetheless.

This one took me 5 years to complete but you can see from the pictures that it was a bit of an exponential curve, with the vast majority being completed in the first couple of years.

Days Found Matrix

Days Found Matrix

Here is my progress through the completion of the “Days Found” Matrix.

It took me 5 years to fill it, although I was only really trying for the last two. Before that I wasn’t really a caching stats junkie.

I guess I don’t need to track this one any more.
