We had a long weekend (and quite a warm one) in Durham at the end of August, having been invited up for Nichola’s wedding. It is the self-styled Land of the Prince Bishops. Never heard of them ! It basically means that in times past the Bishops also held secular jurisdiction over the land of their diocese. In the case of Durham, the Prince Bishops were also responsible for keeping out the Scots.
Back at the plot, we chose to stay in a hotel in Durham rather than with either of Kas’s parents just so that it felt like more of a holiday and so that we were conveniently placed for the actual ceremony.
While we were there, we did a bit of local Tommy Tourist, like you do, including a warm sunny afternoon walking around the Durham Cathedral and the River Wear with Dennis and Linda.
I don’t seem to have taken photos at Nichola’s wedding.
